TWO YEARS HIGHER SECONDARY COURSES

For seeking admission to the First Year of Higher Secondary Cousre, a candidate must have passed H.S.L.C. Examination of Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) or Secondary Examination of CBSE or other Boards examination recognised by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). Candidates other than SEBA will have to produce Migration Certificate in due time, else their candidature will be cancelled.

Admission in H.S. Course will be given strictly on the basis of merit, and Admission Committee will finalise the list of candidates for admission. There is a provision for reservation of seats for students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, MOBC, PWD, etc.

Any break in studies after passing HSLC or equivalent examination must be supported by a ‘GAP’ Certificate issued as per specified proforma by an appropriate authority.

COURSE-CURRICULA

The course and curricula of H.S. are conducted as per the rules and regulations of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). Students seeking admission in HS First Year will have three core subjects and can choose four elective subjects from the list given below, of which three elective subjects are mandatory, and the fourth elective is optional and will not carry any extra marks. * A student who opted for the M.I.L. subject other than Bengali will have to take permission from the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati.

N.B.: – Change of subject(s) after admission is not encouraged. However, in special circumstances, application for change of subject (s) is required to be made to the principal through the respective HoDs within one month from the date of admission. Application received thereafter will not be accepted.

FOURTH YEAR UNDER GRADUATE PROGRAMME (FYUG)

The programme of study to be called as Four-Year Under Graduate (FYUG) Course under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and shall be a 8-semester programme of 4 (Four) years‟ duration . 

Primary Guidelines for admission to Degree 1st semester consequent upon implementation of NEP-2020 by the Assam University, Silchar. 

Assam University is implementing NEP-2020 from the session 2023-24 for UG courses in affiliated colleges with the following guidelines:

  1. UG curriculum for Colleges affiliated to Assam University shall be a four year UG programme (FYUG).
  2. UG programme under AU shall be of four year duration with lateral exit and entry option at various level; viz. Exit after one year (two semester) with Undergraduate Certificate, exit after second year or four semester with Undergraduate Diploma, exit after third year or six semester with Three Year Bachelor’s Degree and exit after four year or eight semester with Bachelor’s Degree (HONOURS/Research).
  3. Curriculum structure as per NEP-2020 for colleges affiliated to AUS is comprising of the following courses-

 DSC: Discipline Specific Core.·

 DSM: Discipline Specific Minor.·  

 IDC: Interdisciplinary courses.·

 AEC: Ability Enhancement courses (Languase – MIL· & EL).

 SEC: Skill Enhancement courses.·

 VAC: Value Added Courses (Common)·

  1.  a. DSM is two types for each subject – first minor and second minor.
  2. Students shall take two DSM subjects related to his/her discipline from cluster of subjects provided by the College/University.  
  3. For Three Year UG programme DSM-101(3), DSM-201(4), DSM-251(3) and DSM301(3) =13 credits should be the first minor subject while DSM-151(3), DSM-252(3), DSM-302(3) and DSM-354(4) = 13 credit should be second minor subject. For FYUG programme DSM-401(4) should be first minor subject and DSM-451(4) should be second minor subject.
  4. Marks for Practical papers shall be of 100 marks each. The practical papers are DSC-152, 253, 303,354, 404 and DSM-251(first minor), DSM-351(2nd minor).

Both DSC and DSM should be chosen from within either of the clusters. DSC from one cluster and DSM from other cluster is not allowed. 

  1. All DSM courses shall be stand alone and students can select first minor subject and second minor subject according to their choice keeping total requirement of 17 credit for each minor but they cannot change the code of minor papers e.g one student of History (core) may have Political Science as first minor in DSM-101 and Economics as second minor in DSM- 151. But the other student of History (core) may have Economics as first minor in DSM- 101 and Political Science as second minor in DSM-151. 
  2. a) IDC courses opted shall remain same for all three semesters. Semester wise change of IDC is not allowed.
  3. b) Natural Science in IDC shall not have any practical component.
  4. c) Student opted Political Science, English, Bengali, History, Geography, Economics as DSC shall take Education, Library Science, Mathematics as IDC and vice versa.
  5. DSC, DSM and IDC cannot be the same subject.
  6. For VAC 151 (EVS) there shall be no practical component.
  7. For Research with Honours students, DSC-451 paper shall be Research Methodology and content of this course shall be the same across the subjects and across the disciplines.
  8. Any student interested to opt for Honours with Research in fourth year should have 7.5 CGPA upto third year or 6th semester without any arrear.
  9. For only Honours degree there shall not be any CGPA restrictions, but students with arrear papers shall not be allowed to move 4th year in any case.
  10. For only Honours degree in 8th semester in lieu of project/dissertation, students shall have the option to take three additional courses as DSC (DSC-452.453 & 454) which will be equal to 12 credits in total.
  11. For AEC there shall not be any internal examination and the total marks for AEC examination (ESE) shall be 50 with two hours examination duration.
  12. SEC shall have to be opted from either DSC or DSM. (SEC should be offered same subject as the student opted DSC wherever available i.e. Student who opted DSC as Physics, he/she preferably opt Physics as SEC) 

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:  

Ÿ  Candidates for admission to the FIRST SEMESTER of FYUG shall be ‘ required to have passed the Higher Secondary (+2) or its equivalent Examinations conducted by any recognized University/ Board/ Council, which shall be treated as qualifying examination. Provided that candidates for admission into the specific programme of study shall also possess such other qualifying conditions as may be prescribed by the University or concerned college.

Ÿ   No candidate shall be admitted to FIRST SEMESTER of FYUG programme of study, unless he/she has passed the qualifying examination. 

ELIGIBILITY FOR AWARD OF DEGREE:

A registered student shall be eligible for the award of Bachelor’s Degree only if he/she has undergone the FYUG programme of study in a college affiliated to the University for a period of not less than three academic years and successfully completes all the examinations of all six semesters prescribed for the programme. An eligible candidate, on successful completion of the FYUG Honours programme by passing all the papers of the prescribed courses as per the Course Structure with minimum of 160 credits. 

DURATION OF PROGRAMME OF STUDY:

Ÿ  Each academic year of the FYUG programme of study shall be divided into two semesters. The first academic year shall comprise the first and Second semesters, the second academic year the third and fourth semesters, the third academic year the fifth and sixth semesters and, the fourth academic year the seventh and eighth semesters  respectively.

 Ÿ   Maximum duration for the completion of a FYUG programme of study is 7 (seven) years at a stretch from the date of admission (i.e, 10 (ten) consecutive End Semester Examinations) as per the “Guidelines on Determination of a Uniform Span Period within which a Student may be allowed to Qualify for a Degree” published by UGC dated October 15, 2015. This criterion shall be strictly adhered to while determining the eligibility to appear in any ESE for Arrear Paper/s, and Betterment Examination.
