The establishment of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Govt. Model College, Katlicherra, Hailakandi by the RUSA and the Government of Assam in 2020 is a matter of pride for the people of Katlicherra in particular, and the Hailakandi District in general. It is a dream project of the Assam government, funded by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The college came into being as a result of the continuous efforts of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Assam and the RUSA, Assam, and the college has finally been able to open its doors to the first batch of students for the academic year 2020-2021. We successfully completed our first academic session with the help of all college stakeholders. Initially, the college’s goals were limited to providing education in the Arts stream only. I am pleased to announce that the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Govt. Model College, Katlicherra will admit its second batch of students for the academic session 2021-2022 for Higher Secondary 1st Year Arts and B.A. 1st Semester classes. The goal of the government initiative to establish the college was to provide high-quality competitive higher education comparable to that available in the country’s best institutes, with a focus on arts education that is affordable and accessible to all sections of the community.

         The permanent campus of the College, is likely to be established at Sultanicherra, the southern part of Hailakandi District. Sultani Village/ Sultanicherra, is situated 43 km away from district headquarter Hailakandi and is located in Katlichara Tehsil of Hailakandi district in Assam. The college’s temporary campus is conveniently located at Unused building (Girls’ Hostel and MSDP Building) of Jamira High School, Jamira Bazar, near national highway 154. Which is at a short distance of about 3.5 kms from the original venue Sultanicherra and about 47 km away from district headquarter, Hailakandi. Despite the fact that the college’s infrastructure has not yet been constructed, we do not want to keep the students of this region waiting any longer. We expect to complete all of the construction work within a year or two. Meanwhile, I’d like to invite all deserving students from the region to enroll in this college and become a part of this historic initiative, as well as participate in our progress toward excellence. The College offers Higher Secondary courses (10+2) in Arts Stream under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Guwahati, as well as Bachelor of Arts course under Assam University, Silchar. The College is affiliated to Assam University, Silchar from the academic session 2020-2021. 

        A slew of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members will make every effort to impart education while also monitoring students on a regular basis for overall improvement. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to inform you that we have well-qualified and energetic teachers who are enthusiastic about their profession. I hope that our students will be able to excel in their academic and intellectual pursuits as a result of their participation in this institution. The majority of the villagers who live near the college are both educationally and financially disadvantaged. Despite the fact that there are many Middle & High schools in and around the area, opportunities to pursue higher education are limited. I am delighted to be taking over the reins of this new college. I hope, or rather, know, that we will achieve and set many milestones in the coming years with the help of dedicated staff and the assistance of local residents, whose intellectual and general growth is our primary focus. I welcome you to the prestigious institution of higher learning, assuring you of a nurturing and caring environment, with the expectation that this institution will provide you with all means of material and intellectual gratification and will assist you in pursuing and achieving your goals.
